16 Nov What’s on your Christmas List this year?
So your ski holiday is booked, and the excitement levels are high! Just the small matter of Christmas to get through first, (unless you are lucky enough to be spending Christmas in the white stuff!). Either way, now is a good time to check out your ski gear so you can add any ‘upgrades’ to your Christmas list!
The Kaluma Team have been busy putting together our wish lists, and we thought we would share what we’ll be asking Santa for this year…
Kaluma Travel Christmas List
Hestra gloves made quite a few of our lists this year. A firm favourite with professionals, instructors and guides, Hestra have developed their gloves based on the ‘layering’ technique so guarantee warmth. They are widely known to last too, making them a really good investment.
Heli-skiing was also a firm favourite with the Kaluma team. Whilst we would happily heli-ski pretty much anywhere, Alaska was our dream destination. Our friends at Last Frontier have developed superb heli-skiing safari tours, which take in some of the most untouched and expansive snow regions in the world! With a skiable area 25 times the size of the Three Valleys, and only small groups of skiers at any one time, it really would be an incredible, once in a lifetime experience.
‘Experiences’ continued to be a theme on our Christmas lists with ideas such as private instructors to help with ‘plateau-ed’ techniques, long lunches with friends at La Bouitte in Saint Martin, ski trips to Japan and Patagonia, and a holiday in our stunning Chalet 53 in St Anton.
As avid skiers, new equipment feature heavily on our lists with skis with DPS Yvette 112 Foundation skis and Black Crows being firm favourites. And a pair of Head Advant 85 ladies boots were described as a ‘necessity’ rather than something to wish for!
The Kaluma girls were also keen to upgrade their ‘look’ for next season with new ski jackets like the Salomon ‘Icetown’ jacket and the Columbia Powder Summit jacket. Whereas Director Andy is adding an all-in-one suit to his Christmas list for those extreme powder days!
Who doesn’t need more gadgets? Especially when it comes to the snow! Oakley are due to launch their new Airwave ski goggles that that have a built in screen for mobile phone display, music and GPS maps as well as many other handy features. These are no ordinary goggles however, they have a wide range of imagery and data that allow you to find where your friends are, gives you data about that last jump, and are operated by a wrist-worn remote control!
Then there is the Suunto Spartan Ultra sports watch which takes fitness technology to a whole new level! With loads of high-tech features like heat maps that tell you which are the most crowded slopes, as well as dozens of stats that record altitude, speed and distance traveled. Functional, helpful and guaranteed to make you sound like an expert over après-ski at the end of the day!
Above all though, the one thing that we would all like for Christmas is loads and loads of fresh, powdery, beautiful snow all season long. Come on Santa, we have been very good this year…
