Madness in the Mountains

PHEW….what a busy two weeks on the mountain in the Arlberg.

We kicked off with the UK half term holidays and an abundance of families and children descended on the resorts of St Anton, Stuben, Lech, Zurs and St Christoph.. Great to see so many children skiing and even better to see them all wearing helmets these days! Busy times for Kaluma with a full chalet and numerous guests, both regular and new, in hotels throughout the Arlberg.

Sadly, despite great lift systems and fast moving lifts, there were still a few queues to be expected on this busy week…..with one day of heavy snow closing many of the higher lifts, the lower runs took a battering, but at least the snow was fresh!

Following such a heavy snowfall it was great to get off the piste and ski some fresh powder in Lech and Zurs, away from the crowds. I skied with one of our regular families and their children, with a guide from The Arlberg Classic Ski School and we had a tremendous day in the pow! Fresh tracks most of the day and only one small lift queue to battle through!

No sooner does half term end, then Austrian Carnival starts…..another week of very busy slopes and skiers in fancy dress (pictures to follow!) Some glorious sunshine in the early part of the week, saw the snow warm up and be a bit dangerous off the piste, but the on piste conditions were pretty close to perfect! Great to blast around and enjoy all the Arlberg has to offer (except those dam queues!)

So as the week comes to an end, at Kaluma in St Anton we are getting ready for the arrival of many more of our corporate groups at the weekends and for many familiar faces coming out to fill in the gaps and take advantage of excellent conditions and stay in our chalets for the early part of the week. (Sun – Wednesday breaks are becoming increasingly popular and there are not many people who can offer such great value as we can!)

Without a doubt, the best snow season in many many a year!
