Horse Riding
Horse riding trips will take you to the heart of the Andes; to the tops of hills and mountains with absolutely breathtaking views, across hidden valleys and along beautiful lakes, crossing rivers and creeks and through enchanted forests with ancient monkey puzzle trees. You can choose to spend nights camping under the stars at secluded campsites too if you wish.
Fly Fishing
Caballadas covers over 14 kilometers of pristine river waters, several creeks, and a lake. The property plays host to one of the most exclusive fly-fishing rivers in Patagonia, the Quillen, famous among dry fly fanatics. The wide variety of water structure and bottoms provide a perfect habitat for a good population of trout, where abundant browns and rainbows are actively feeding and rising through most of the season.

Caballadas offer trips from November to mid-December, and March to the first week of May. These months are the best time to visit due to the weather in northern Patagonia. Nights are cool at temperatures under 10°C (40°sF) but reach un to a pleasant 30°C (80°sF) during the day when sunny. Its always important to bear in mind that Caballadas is in the mountains, so to be prepared for unpredictable weather and often the cool winds.
A number of carriers offer international flights to Buenos Aires, Argentina. From there, Aerolineas Argentinas (www.aerolineas.com.ar) and LAN Argentina (www.lan.com) run daily flights to San Martin de los Andes, Neuquen, and Bariloche airports.

Transferring to the Estancia
Transfers can be arranged for you to Caballadas from your arrival airport (additional fee). It is also possible to rent a 4WD car or truck and enjoy the drive on your own, watching the landscape change as you ascend higher in to the mountains of Patagonia.

Ride across towering mountains, through enchanted forests, alongside beautiful lakes, rivers and creeks and enjoy rustic luxury accommodation in a family-owned lodge and at pop-up campsites along the way.
DAY 1
Arrive on a morning flight from Buenos Aires to San Martin de los Andes/Neuquen/Bariloche airport and drive/private transfer to the ranch. The road trip from the airport to the ranch is beautiful and follows the Alumine River Basin. You will notice spectacular natural changes, ranging from the arid plateau to the subtropical woods of the northern Andes.
That night you will enjoy a lovely dinner and go over plans for the days ahead.
You will need to schedule your departure from Buenos Aires on mid morning flight the first day of the trip, so you will likely need to arrive in Buenos Aires the day before. Please let us know if you would like help arranging accommodation in Buenos Aires on arrival.
Arrangements can be made for private transfers to the ranch.
DAY 2
Today is spent getting to know your horse and used to the gear in preparation for the days ahead.
After a nice breakfast you will ride through the Valley and enjoy a pleasant lunch at Las Tordillas barn. After lunch, you will resume your ride and finish the day at the Valley Lodge where a hot shower and delicious meal await!
DAY 3
Today the horse-pack trip begins! The trail leads will lead you deep into the Andes. Enjoy lunch at the beautiful “Mallin Largo Valley,” a hidden valley surrounded by ancient trees and the famous millenary Monkey Puzzle trees.
Conclude today’s ride by passing through Las Caballadas Valley located at the far end of the ranch next to the Chilean border.
The campsite will be prepared by the time you arrive and a personal chef will have a bonfire going along with a traditional Patagonian dinner and a welcoming glass of wine for you.
DAY 4
Following a delicious breakfast, you will get back on horseback. Today, the trail leads you to the mighty Lanin Volcano and through the towering Andes Mountain Range. Weather permitting, you will ride to the top of “Cerro Ventana” (1,957m / 6,421′).
Return to the campsite in the afternoon.
DAY 5
Today the trail will lead you to “Cerro Ponom” (1,865m / 6,119′), across through “Mogotes Grises,” and heading down to the gorgeous “Tres Lagunas Valley”, before returning to the campsite through the Magdalena and Caballadas Valley.
DAY 6
After breakfast, pack up and ride back to the ranch for around 5pm. After a relaxing shower, afternoon tea will be waiting, followed by a delicious dinner to celebrate your incredible trip to Northern Patagonia!
DAY 7
Time to pack and say goodbye to the ranch today.
Upon request, arrangements can be made for airport transfers.
Expect to ride for five to six hours each day, approximately 40 kilometers (24 miles).
