25 Nov Pre Season in a Ski Resort……
In any normal walk of life, in one sentence, if I mentioned ; gimps swinging from a roof, semi naked girls, gongs, free booze, grown men (and some Swedes) playing with dominos and a crowd watching and egging everyone on, I would get dragged off to a loony bin! However, in St Anton, it all happens in one glorious night, known simply as Domino Day! If that’s captured anyones imagination, then have a look at Funky Chicken’s page on Face Book. It truly was a night to remember.
That’s just one of the pre season parties and opening nights that go hand in hand with late November in a ski resort…..Everyone loves an opening (!), especially over here. I swear, people would go to the opening of an envelope if there was free food and drink involved. Sports Shops, of which there are some impressive new ones in town, clothes shops, bars, hotels, restaurants all have an opening and the masses descend to have a quick wander round and then eat and drink! But it’s fun, it’s social and everyone gets to meet everyone else…..and thats what it’s really all about.
Snow is falling, slowly but surely but I think France, in particular the higher resorts are getting the lions share of the pre season snow. St Anton opens this weekend “officially” and at least there are more runs open than this time last year. Ischgl just down the road hosts a huge opening concert with Gossip headlining. Also seems to be plenty of snow down there as well. But St Anton has it’s share and here’s hoping to a good ski day this weekend…..

The Kaluma Travel team arrive in one week’s time, which gives me a bit more time to shout at builders, stress about new showers and baths and who knows, maybe even attend an opening or two….
