COURCHEVEL 1300

Courchevel 1300 or Le Praz as it is locally known, is a traditional French skiing village. There is no need to shout about the charms of Le Praz, its understated chic speaks volumes. If you are looking for a holiday where there is a real sense of being tucked away from the larger resorts of Courchevel yet be within striking distance of the enormous Trois Vallee ski area then Le Praz is the resort for you.

Along the cobbled streets there are a number of restaurants and bars. The vin chaud at the Hotel Peupliers is the best in Les Trois Vallées and their restaurant La Table Du Mon Grand Pierre with its relaxed dining room serves fabulous food. Not to be missed is the firework competition held by the lake, there is no better back drop to this visual spectacle.

Skiing in Courchevel 1300:

Although the ski area designated to Le Praz is small there are some lovely tree lined runs back to the village. The black pistes Jean Blanc and Jockeys should prove enough of a challenge for tired legs at the end of the day. Those looking for a slightly mellower run back should try Brigues. As part of the Trois Vallee Le Praz is as well maintained as you would expect from this world renowned resort.

 

The Le Praz and Forret bubble takes you up to Courchevel 1850 and Le Tania respectively; you can be sure of a swift getaway in the mornings.

A brandy laced vin chaud in Le Norby’s bar is a sure fire way to warm up at the end of the day.

 

Sample the famously strong French beer at Darbello’s and feel like a true local.
Courchevel 1300 is a great place to ski on heavy snowfall and low cloud days as the tree lined runs have clear visibility.

Dining in Courchevel 1300

Le Praz boasts some unique dining in small and intimate restaurants. You can sample traditional Savoyard faire in the wood clad restaurant Darbellos. Those looking for a more traditional style of dining should visit the restaurant at the Hotel les Peupliers where there is an impressive wine list. For a more lively, younger evening head to the L’Escourche-Vel where there is live music and TV’s in this popular bar/pizzeria.
