A bit about Andy: A founder partner and Director in Kaluma Travel I have now lived in Austria for over 15 yrs and consider it home. Split the year between the alps and the office and love the mountains in the summer almost as much as I do the winter. Worked in Events and Hospitality most of my working life, set up bars and restaurants, managed luxury travel companies and helped organise big London based Events like the Ski Show and MPH Motor Shows.
Still a passionate (and good) skier, but probably a better long luncher and apres skier!!
What I love about my job: Talking skiing, skiing, visiting all the resorts and skiing them. Skiing with friends, skiing with guests, skiing in soft fresh fluffy powder and drinking ice cold beers with some of the best views in the world! But mainly, helping others to enjoy the mountains the same way I do….
Favourite Resort: St Anton (but very biased). Verbier a very close second.
Favourite Property: For me, the St Antoner Hof in St Anton is a special place. Or our very own Chalet Montfort (as I helped build it!).
Best Ski Memory: Amazing off piste day in St Anton/Zurs with some regular guests. Skiing off the back of Valuga and skiing straight to a helicopter pick up to heli-ski at the back of Zurs. Finished off at a small, traditional mountain hut with a cold beer and great memories! Or the time when I proved I was a better skier then Richard.
Best Kaluma Tip: Use our experience and knowledge. We really do know our resorts and can offer heaps of insider tips that can only enhance your holiday. From the best place to buy a hot chocolate on the slopes to where you can hire a pet poodle for the day in Lech (I’m serious). We are happy to answer any questions at any time.
A bit about Richard: Having broken free from a city career, I spent over a decade living in amazing ski resorts in France, Switzerland and Austria. Hosting events, ski guiding, paragliding, wine tasting, ski touring and generally loving anything to do with the mountains.
The business plan was borne in a gondola in Val Thorens and it’s been onwards and upwards ever since. Never shy about getting involved in the details of any booking – our success has been led by trust, repeat business and word of mouth recommendations.
After 12 highly rewarding years in business, I can say with confidence that we must be doing something right.
What I love about my job: Being in business with such a great team. Watching Kaluma and our team grow is a fascinating journey.
The Kaluma alumni is an amazing crowd, all doing cool things after some wicked shared experiences in the Alps. Former dream team members include restauranteurs, army officers, lawyers, doctors, city traders, a pilot and a stand up comic !
Favourite Resort: It has to be Courchevel – no where else in the world has such naturally easy access to ski terrain like this. Being in Courchevel at New Year is a bit like being on a Hollywood film set, but bling aside, it’s remains a stunningly beautiful place with truly world class skiing and a lift system to match.
(I wish we could import the Tapas from the Pyrenees, the friendliness of the Italian ski instructors, and the aprés ski from Austria).
Favourite Property: Chalet Maurine in Verbier – the best located chalet in town … close to aprés, and super close to the lift station. Love the steep off piste terrain of Verbier, followed by a relaxing outdoor dip in the hot tub with a beer and good company. It’s the simple things in life.
Best Ski Memory: New Year’s morning in Courchevel, with 30cms of fresh snow on a cold, crisp and clear day. The resort was completely full but the 1st lift of the day and entire ski area were utterly deserted as everyone had overindulged the night before.
It felt like we had Les Trois Vallees to ourselves – surreal and amazing !
Best Kaluma Tip: Try new resorts and hotels, not always the obvious options. Take experienced advice. The local knowledge will add a huge amount of value, but should cost nothing.
A bit about Beth: I was born in Geneva and was on a pair skis pretty much as soon as I could walk! My love of skiing and the mountains has not abated at all, and I still frequent the Alps both during the winter and the summer. My career has involved working for some big media organisations and newspapers, and I spent a long stint at Radio Times magazine, which gave me a superb grounding in building relationships with clients (so much so, I met my then client and now husband there!). As a mum of 3 young, budding skiers combined with my professional experience of corporate ski trips, I have a good understanding of what’s involved and required by families who ski, as well as the complexities of organizing large corporate trips.
What I love about my job: Goodness, where do I start! Having loved skiing from a very young age, I still have to pinch myself that it’s my job to talk all things ‘skiing’ every day. I love talking to our guests and understanding what criteria is important for their ‘ideal’ holiday. Holidays are important, as it’s a chance to spend time with family and friends, so its crucial that we get it right and take all the stress out of the planning in order to deliver a superb ski experience. for our guests.
Favourite Resort: For the skiing, Val d’Isere wins hands down for me, but for it’s sheer beauty as a resort, it has to be Megeve. However, although I have visited several times, I have not yet skied the Arlberg and I’m intrigued to experience the extensive off piste and amazing slopes there.
Favourite Property: Les Fermes de Marie in Megeve holds very special memories as I had my wedding reception there! However, I also have a real soft spot for our fabulous Chalet 53 in St Anton. It really is such a beautiful chalet.
Best Ski Memory: Gosh there are so many to choose from! A university ski trip to Tignes with Andy, (back in the days when he wasn’t terribly good – he may beg to differ!), a ‘perfect conditions’ day in Chamonix with my husband (sans enfants), racing (and beating) my brother down the front face of Solaise in Val d’Isere, and a fabulous long lunch with friends at the top of Rochbrune in Megeve.
Best Kaluma Tip: What I have quickly realized here and what I love about Kaluma – the team is hugely passionate about what we do, and committed to making sure you have the best holiday possible, so please ask us anything! From arranging child-care and ski lessons, to booking you the best table in a restaurant or arranging a day of heli skiing, nothing is too much trouble! And if you are heading to St Anton, ask Andy or Carly to take you guiding, not many people know the resort better than they do!
A bit about Georgina: Based in the UK office but having worked with Kaluma since the start (with a short break in between) I really do know Kaluma inside out. Having recently started skiing with our two small children in tow I can honestly say we can cover most eventualities when it comes to skiing with little ones.
What I love about my job: Organising the perfect ski holiday for the variety of clients we work with. I’ve worked in most of our resorts organising holidays from the ground up for large family groups, incentive trips and bespoke honeymoons. There is nothing more satisfying than a guest leaving buzzing from a great trip away that we’ve put together.
Favourite Resort: Courchevel. From a skiing point of view, if you enjoy wide open pistes, stunning scenery and a flattering last run into resort at the end of the day then 1850 offers just that. Always best to end on a positive I find.
Best Ski Memory: There are a few. When a local ski instructor told me I was a beautiful skier and technically better than Richard. I’m not, but it still makes me chuckle. My first powder run, when I didn’t fall. Watching our children Bella and Oscar ski through the trees with beaming faces.
Best Kaluma Tip: Trust us. We are a small company, with years of experience in our resorts. We genuinely want to organise the best holiday out there for you.
A bit about Laura: I graduated from Durham University with a 2:1 in French and Italian back in 2013 and I have been fortunate enough to use my language skills and work in some amazing places including Thorpe Park, Disneyland Paris, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club and London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. After completing a Graduate Management scheme in Hospitality, I decided to pursue a career in travel sales. With my previous experience working in the ski industry, I moved to the south coast with my partner, who is a Royal Navy Officer, and joined the Kaluma team in East Meon in October 2015.
What I love about my job: Being able to do something different every day! I love the working environment in our office where it is all about team work and doing whatever we can to keep our clients happy and our chalets filled. Everyone is so passionate about our Kaluma service, it’s contagious!
Favourite Resort: At the moment it is Meribel for the great skiing in Les Trois Vallées, but I am excited to explore St Anton and Verbier for something different and the apres ski!
Favourite Property: It has to be Eden Rock: with its fantastic facilities (including the spa!), stunning rooms and great service from the staff, it definitely offers the most luxurious accommodation in St Anton.
Best Ski Memory: Sitting on the sun terrace looking over the Tarentaise valley with a glass of vino with my friends after a day’s skiing.
Best Kaluma Tip: If in doubt, ask! We are always happy to take any special requests, answer any questions, and our flexibility allows us to tailor make your holiday to suit you. Nothing is too much trouble for us.
A bit about Carly: Having worked in the hospitality industry as an events manager since graduation, predominately running corporate functions at large sporting events, in 2014 I was looking for a little break. I worked on super yachts for the summer, gaining further invaluable experience of high end service and then, as a keen skier I decided the mountains were the place for me, so I headed for St Anton. I’m now absolutely hooked and feel very excited to be part of the Kaluma team, managing the operations in St Anton and the Arlberg region – combining my passion for the mountains with my vast experience in the hospitality industry.
What I love about my job: I love working with people and meeting new people – so an ideal job for me! The overseas team is comprised of professional people from all walks of life, brought together to share one common passion; a love of the mountains and a desire to offer the best possible service. There is no denying that working a season isn’t easy, so in my new position I want to make sure that every member of the team gets exactly what they’re looking for; that they make great friends, get as much mountain time as possible, thrive and develop in their job roles, and most importantly look back in years to come with only the fondest of memories. After all, our staff are our most valuable asset and they will be delivering Kaluma’s unique service style. Happy staff = happy guests!
Favourite Resort: For the skiing, the après and the beauty of the village, I think St Anton is hard to beat.
Favourite Property: The Eden Rock Chalet in St Anton, with its beautiful views, an in-house spa and its stylish yet traditional decor; it’s the definition of luxury! Without a doubt the No.1 chalet in the whole resort.
Best Ski Memory: My first ever ski tour. I spent the day with my sister and I remember noticing the silence of the backcountry once we were away from the piste and feeling such achievement on reaching the peak. But most importantly it was my first time skiing in completely untracked powder. It was unforgettable.
Best Kaluma Tip: Ask us anything! We love the mountains and love sharing our knowledge of these beautiful resorts. The more you know, the more you will enjoy your experience with us!
A bit about Lucy: Lucy is Andy’s wife and mother of their two sons Archie and Max. Andy and Lucy met when she was a corporate client of Kaluma’s on a trip in St Anton. Let’s just say after a few wines and Lucy impressing Andy with her bar top dancing skills, he proposed to the girl he once nicknamed Bridget. As a very experienced event manager Lucy has worked in the financial sector and prior to that she worked in sports, mostly in Formula One, looking after one of the team’s sponsors and guests at all F1 races around the globe. This reinforced Lucy’s already established passion for travel. With incredible contacts and an eye for unique and interesting travel, Lucy has come on board to work on our Amazing Experiences venture.
What I love about my job: Researching and reaching out to interesting people who have travelled the globe far and wide to put together Amazing Experiences. It’s flexible, so works around having two small children. It’s really very rewarding to put together such incredible trips and knowing first hand how passionate Kaluma are in tailor-making bespoke itineraries for people, this job is a dream!
Favourite Resort: It would have to be St Anton as we live there!
Favourite Property: Kaluma’s new Chalet Bluebird – it oozes style and it’s got a hot tub – need I say more?
Best Ski Memory: Getting married at the Hospiz Alm in St Anton/St Christoph at the end of the ski season. We were so lucky with the weather having snowed that week it meant all our guests were able to ski some powder and I could ski on our wedding day!
Best Kaluma Tip: Skiing – book early and book direct with Kaluma – you will get the best offer and always get the best service. For Amazing Experiences – if there is something that tickles your wanderlust, get in touch and we can tailor make a trip just for you.
A bit about Louise: Hospitality has been the backbone of my career for many years. From managing VIP’s and high profile events to managing a Chateau for UHNWI individuals; providing a high end bespoke service with attention to detail is always high on my agenda. Having moved to South West France ten years ago, arranging events has since become part of my daily life. I had always longed to do a ski season but had never found the right moment. Bizarrely last winter, that changed, and there my first season with Kaluma began. I cannot deny this role is a challenging one but extremely rewarding. I am so excited to be back with the Kaluma team for another exciting season.
What I love about my job: What I love about my job: My job allows me to work with an amazing team and one of the most respected ski companies in Courchevel. I meet lots of fabulous guests, all so very different, but all with stories to tell. From meeting and greeting families and being on hand to guide them through their holiday, to spending time with corporate groups and overseeing their busy schedules (and possibly enjoy the odd lunch or two out with them), and say that skiing is work….I really do love my job!
Favourite Resort: I have visited many resorts over the years, but I have to say that I am smitten with Courchevel. Les Trois Vallees boasts the biggest ski area in the world; provides a variation of dramatic views and landscapes, and most importantly caters for all abilities. You can never tire of watching the sun rise and a new day reveal itself with a different view.
Favourite Property: Chalet Montana has to be my favourite. The views from there are absolutely breathtaking. The interior is decorated beautifully with reclaimed timber, stone flooring, open log fires and accessorised with deep comfy sofas. Montana really does provide the luxury chalet experience. It also offers hidden extras such as a Jacuzzi, games room and a TV snug with home cinema. What more does one need on a ski holiday!
Best Ski Memory: My best memory has to be hitting the slopes early with my team and getting on the first lifts before the rest of Courchevel wakes. Skiing on freshly untracked powder on a blue sky day with your crew is just the ultimate feeling. I am so excited to be going back!
Best Kaluma Tip: Kaluma have gained a huge wealth of knowledge of their resorts over the years, and this knowledge, together with a bespoke service, ensures that the ultimate trip really is out there.
